Recently, I have been really getting back into reading. For the first half of this year, I was in a bit of a reading slump. Since June, that has completely changed and I’ve returned back to my bookworm self. Whilst I’ve been updating my Goodreads profile, I started to think about the Sword and Laser book club. This was a book club I joined way back in 2012 and back in the dayI used to take part in the monthly reads quite regularly. Then life happened and I stopped keeping track of the book picks.
So, where am I going with this? Last week, my curiosity about what was going on with the book club was piqued, so I checked out the group and was pleased to see it was still thriving. That was when my brain decided I needed to undertake a challenge…
What if I read every book the Sword and Laser book club has read?
So, I hopped over to the book club’s website and saw how many books they have read. 169. Yes, 169 books as of July 2022. Despite this large number, my heart was set on this challenge. So, after all of this rambling, I am writing this post to declare my intention to read all of the past Sword and Laser book club picks whilst also keeping up with the monthly reads going forward. I will say that I don’t intend to set a deadline, as I want to read the books at my own pace and not feel like I have to rush and ruin my experience with a book.
Despite the long list, I am feeling more excited than daunted. The reason why I first joined the book club was to get me to read books that I wouldn’t normally have picked up, especially sci-fi books as I don’t read as much in that genre. Some of the books will be re-reads for me, like the very first book Northern Lights by Philip Pullman, but almost all of these re-reads were books that I haven’t read in years so it will be great to revisit them.
And that is it for this post. I just wanted to share my crazy challenge with you guys. I will leave some links for the Sword and Laser book club at the end, just in case anyone wants to check the book club out. I will keep you guys updated with my monthly reading updates and I can’t wait to share my experience with you.
