It has been a while since I’ve done a top five list on this blog, so I thought what better way to bring back these list posts, than by writing one about the five games I am looking forward to being released in 2023!
Before we get into the top five, there are a number of games that I want to give an honourable mention to. They didn’t quite make the list because there either isn’t a lot of information about them or their release date is only loosely confirmed for 2023. So, here are the games that didn’t quite make the list:
- Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.
- The Wolf Among Us 2.
- Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader.
- Metal Slug Tactics.
- Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.
Now that the honourable mentions are out of the way, let’s take a look at the top five games!
5. GrimGrimoire Once More.

At number 5 is GrimGrimoire Once More, a remake of GrimGrimoire, a strategy RPG developed by Vanillaware. You play as Lillet, a new student of Silver Star Tower, a magic academy. Not long after Lillet begins her studies in magic, a disaster happens at the tower and only she can uncover the truth behind it.I’ve been wanting to play GrimGrimoire since I began replaying PS2 games, so this remake will offer me the opportunity to do so.
GrimGrimoire Once More releases in April.
4. Theatrhythm Final Bar Line.

Next up is a Final Fantasy spin off series that I was not expecting to enjoy as much as I did. Theatrhythm Final Bar Line is the third game in the Theatrhythm series- a series of rhythm games that are themed around the music from the Final Fantasy series. The first two Theatrhythm games I thoroughly enjoyed playing on my 3DS. They weren’t anything unique but they did allow me to immerse myself in the Final Fantasy soundtracks, especially Final Fantasy X’s, which is pretty much all my inner FF fan needs.
Theatrhythm Final Bar Line releases in February.
3. Octopath Traveler II.

Octopath Traveler II is another sequel that I wasn’t expecting. I really enjoyed playing Octopath Traveleron my Switch and for a while it was one of my favourite games on the Switch. I loved the concept of eight different characters who were all on their own separate journeys, all of them being very personal quests rather than large ‘save-the-world’ scenarios. I also really liked the battle system which had a layer of strategy to the turn based combat. So, I am very much looking forward to returning to the world of Octopath Traveler, with a new cast of characters to journey with.
Octopath Traveler II releases in February.
2. Fire Emblem Engage.

This next game is actually releasing very soon! Fire Emblem Engage is the latest entry in the long running Fire Emblem series. In Fire Emblem Engage, the Fell Dragon is about to awaken and you must stop it, but not to worry as your character will have the ability to call on heroes from previous Fire Emblem games. I love the Fire Emblem series, I believe it is one of the best strategy game series available on the Nintendo consoles, in fact my favourite 3DS game is the first Fire Emblem game I played- Fire Emblem: Awakening and Fire Emblem: Three Houses is one of my favourite games on Switch. So, I can’t wait to try out Fire Emblem Engage.
Fire Emblem Engage releases in January.
1. Assassin’s Creed: Mirage.

And the number one game I am most looking forward to is Assassin’s Creed: Mirage. For long time readers of this blog, this probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise. The Assassin’s Creed series is one of my favourite video game series of all time. In this latest entry of the series, we follow Basim as becomes a master assassin in 9th century Baghdad. Assassin’s Creed: Mirage is looking to be a bit of a tribute to the original Assassin’s Creed, which is fitting as the series is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary. It also appears to be taking the gameplay back to its roots, as it looks like the game will be set in one city or a much smaller area, especially when compared to more recent titles. Overall, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage looks like it is going to be a lot of fun.
Assassin’s Creed: Mirage will be released at some point in 2023.
And those were the games I am most looking forward to in 2023! I would love to hear about the games you want to play, so let me know in the comments below and I’ll talk to you soon!
