My Video Game Collection: My Plans For 2022.

The gaming collecting community saw a lot of ups and downs over the course of 2021. A lot of people online said they are stopping collecting video games, mainly because the prices for some consoles are getting a little crazy. I’m fortunate as a lot of the consoles I collect for, seem to be not as affected by this price increase. So, today, I thought I would share my intentions/plans for my game collections in 2022.

Let’s start off with the easiest two consoles- my PS4 and Switch. I mentioned in my Top Five Games Releasing In 2022 post which games I am looking forward to and there are a few more that I have my eye on that didn’t make the list. Aside from the newer games, I am also looking to pick up some of the games I managed to miss, such as Luigi’s Mansion 3, Animal Crossing: New Horizons and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. I’m pretty happy with my PS4 games, but if I see anything going cheap that piques my interest, I’ll probably pick it up.

Last year, I bought my PS3 and I have so far been loving my experience of acquiring and buying games for it. One thing I really love is how cheap a lot of the games currently are! This year, I just want to expand my PS3 library. In particular I want to pick up the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy, the Jak and Daxter trilogy and finish off the Ratchet & Clank series with Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One. I’ll be honest, I’m still discovering so many games I want to try out for the PS3, so I’ll be picking up some more titles as well.

One console that I keep thinking I am done collecting for and then discovering another game or series I want to try is my Playstation 2. I am very happy with my Ps2 games and I think I have all the well known titles that I am interested in. That being said, late last year I kept finding games like Gladius and Disaster Report whose premise interested me. There is only one game that I would love to get in 2022 and that is Persona 4. I would love to get a copy that is complete with the CD, but like a lot of Atlus games, it isn’t cheap. So, I would rather take my time and find a copy that is in a great condition to add to my collection. Aside from that, I don’t have any plans to buy any more PS2 titles, but I won’t be surprised if I end up discovering some more hidden gems this year.

Another console I don’t have any plans to buy more games for, at least at the moment, is my PS Vita. Now I love my Vita and I would happily buy some more titles for it. However, with the store-closing-then-not-closing drama back in the first half of last year, the price of physical Vita games have skyrocketed. Admittedly, some Vita games have started to drop their price but some remain high. I am glad I was able to get a lot of the titles I really wanted in my collection like Child of Light, Atelier Shallie Plus: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea and Freedom Wars. Still, if I find some reasonably priced Vita games, I may end up picking them up.

There are two consoles that I really want to show some love this year and that is my PSP and Nintendo 3DS. I’m not sure why, I just have never really focussed on expanding my collection for both of these consoles. I have added PSP and 3DS titles to my collection in 2021 but not that many and yet there are plenty of games on both consoles that I would love to play such as Valkyria Chronicles II, Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions and Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl.

Finally, I don’t have any plans to pick up a PS5… yet. Long time readers of this blog will be well aware of my eternal battle with my backlog, as such, I have plenty of games to keep me busy. That being said, should I find myself in a position to acquire a PS5 for a reasonable price then I will definitely consider it.

And that is my very basic plan for my game collection for this year. To be honest, I will probably just keep browsing the internet for reasonably priced games that pique my interest, as that has worked out well for me in the past. That being said, if you have any recommendations for games I should try on any of the consoles I have talked about, especially RPGs, please let me know in the comments below and I’ll talk to you soon!
