Revisiting My Gaming New Year Resolutions.

Back at the very end of last year/beginning of this year, I wrote a post about my New Year Gaming Resolutions. Well, since we are about halfway through the year, I thought today would be a good day to take a look at how much progress I have made with said resolutions. Let’s take a look!

1. A developer whose games you’d like to play, that you’ve never played before.

For this one, I said I wanted to play a game developed by Nihon Falcom. I have yet to complete this.

2. A game you’d like to play.

In my original post, I said that I wanted to play Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered. Well, not only have I completed the game but I also earnt the platinum trophy as well! In all honesty, this was one of the best JRPGs I’ve played and I highly recommend that fans of the genre give it a go.

3. A classic game you’d like to play.

OK, I haven’t completed this one… yet. I said that I wanted to play Shadow of the Colossus, which was the game that one the poll vote in last month’s gaming update post. So, once I have finished with Biomutant, I plan to jump straight into Shadow of the Colossus.

4. A game you’d like to re-play.

Another resolution that I have yet to complete. For this one I wanted to revisit Final Fantasy X. In all fairness, I had always planned on playing it later in the year, as I had booked a week off work for my birthday.

5. A game you’ve had for ages and want to play.

For this resolution, I chose the game that I had, physically owned, the longest which was Divinity: Original Sin for PS4. Again, this was a game that I was looking at jumpington into later in the year, but it definitely is one still on my to-play list.

6. A lengthy game you’d like to play.

This time, I picked a Switch game- Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. The plan was that once I completed Fire Emblem: Three Houses, I would then jump into Xenoblade Chronicles… unfortunately I got distracted by other games. However, once I finish Bravely Default II, I will then make a start on Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. I promise.

7. A game you want to from a developer whose games you previously played.

We’ve reached another resolution that I actually completed! This time, I said I wanted to play The Wolf Among Us, which I did a few months ago. I have to say this is my favourite Telltale game that I’ve played. I love the setting, characters and the story. I have my fingers crossed that we will see a season 2, at some point!

8. A game you got for Christmas and would like to play.

For this one, I chose Bioshock and again, I have yet to play it. Shocking, I know.

9. A series you want to play from start to finish.

Even at the time, I said that it was highly unlikely I would actually be able to do this one, as I siad I wanted to play the The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel series. I’ve always said that I would rather take my time and enjoy a game, rather than rush through and ruin my experience. So, in all honesty, I would not be annoyed if I have to put this one off until next year.

10. A series you want to finish that you’ve already started.

This time, I picked another Telltale series- The Walking Dead. I think I will probably save this for October, as zombies and Hallowe’en are a great combination.

11. Any other gaming goals for 2021?

I said I didn’t want to set any ‘beat x number of games’ goals but instead show some love to my PS4, Vita and Switch. With 21 games completed, between the three consoles, I think I’ve done pretty well so far!

As you can see, I have a little way to go when it comes to complete these resolutions. Currently, I am playing Biomutant but after that, I will play Shadow of the Colossus, followed by Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth. I still think my gaming resolutions are doable, I just need to make sure that I don’t burn myself out on video games in the process.

Did you guys set yourself any gaming resolutions? If so, how are you doing with them? How is your gaming, in 2021, going in general? Let me know in the comments and I’ll talk to you soon!

    1. The developers definitely did a great job in taking the comics and making a video game out of that world. I did hear rumours that there was a second season in development but considering everything that has happened with Telltale games, I’m trying to avoid getting my hopes up until we get more information. But I do have my fingers crossed that we see a release!

  1. Well, hey, if you didn’t have work to do, they wouldn’t be as fun, right? And I see a lot of these sort of things as setting the groundwork. You had to get those other games you were playing out of the way first, to make space in your schedule for these, after all.
