Thero’s Gaming A-Z: K.

Its the eleventh post of my Gaming A-Z! Today, I’m talking about a game that begins with the letter K, that I first played nearly fifteen years ago. Can you guess which game it could be?

If you guessed Kingdom Hearts 2, then you are absolutely correct! The Kingdom Hearts series is really a series of video games that should not work. The series takes the characters and melodrama of the Final Fantasy series and combines it with characters and locations from Disney films. Like I said, it shouldn’t work but bizarrely it does. Admittedly. later games go slightly overboard with the whole light versus darkness theme but Kingdom Hearts 2 really shows the series at its best.

Kingdom Hearts 2 picks up a year after the events of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, with Sora, Donald and Goofy waking up to find a new mysterious organisation on the loose, the followers of darkness up to their usual tricks and Riku still missing. Over the course of the game, the protangonists will travel through various Disney worlds, helping to restore the peace to said worlds, whilst finding answers to their many, many questions.

Part of the appeal of Kingdom Hearts 2 is the double whammy of nostalgia from the cameo appearnace of various Final Fantasy heroes and villains, as well as being able to explore many worlds from the Disney animated worlds. Personally, I think the locations that were included in Kingdom Hearts 2 are some of the best in series such as Beast’s Castle and the Pridelands.

Overall, Kingdom Hearts 2 has the right blend of nostalgia, gameplay and unique story. It takes everything that made the first Kingdom Hearts game a success and just improved upon it. If you are fan of Disney animated films or the Final Fantasy games, then this is a game I highly recommend you play.

So, that was my pick for the letter K but what game would you recommend? Let me know in the comments below and I’ll talk to you soon!
