Whilst 2012 is remembered as the year the world was supposed to end but didn’t, it was also the year where a lot of great video games were released. Since I don’t want this post to get too long, I’m sticking to two games released in 2012. Let’s take a look at what I’ve picked!
Whilst 2012 was a great year for video games, it wasn’t great for one of my favourite series, Assassin’s Creed. Up until this point, I enjoyed every release in the series, then Assassin’s Creed III was released. To this day, I believe that Assassin’s Creed III is the weakest entry in the Assassin’s Creed series. Fortunately for me, another assassin themed game was released in the same year, Dishonored.
In Dishonored, you play as Corvo, bodyguard to the Empress Jessamine of Dunwall… that is until you are framed for her assassination. Naturally, this sets you on a path of revenge and redemption. I loved the freedom that Dishonored gave you when it came to completing your missions. You could go on a bit of a murder spree, using all your weaponry and powers to remove anyone who stands in your way or you could try and be a bit of a pacifist. The choice was up to you, but your actions did have consequences and would affect the world around you. I have yet to complete a full pacifist run but one day I would love to do so. I believe that if I hadn’t quit playing Assassin’s Creed III, I would not have given Dishonoreda go, so I guess sometimes having a disappointing game can pay off!
This second game needs little introduction, Far Cry 3. If I recall correctly, my brother was given this as a Christmas present in 2012, but at the very end of the year, I decided to give it a go. Before playing Far Cry 3, I didn’t really play any first person shooters. Sure, I played Call of Duty back on the Playstation 2 and I had played Fallout 3and New Vegas, but that was the extent of my shooter experience. I went into playing Far Cry 3, thinking that I wouldn’t get the hype but instead, I ended up loving it. To this day, it has one of the best antagonists in a video game. If you are looking for a crzay adventure on a tropical island, then Far Cry 3 is just what you are looking for.
And those were the games released in 2012 that meant something to me! Far Cry 3 was my introduction to a series that I enjoy playing to this day; whilst Dishonored proved that sometimes you need to be disappointed by the things you love, in order to try something new.
There were a lot of game released in 2012, which ones did you enjoy playing? Let me know in the comments below and I’ll talk to you soon!
