We’ve almost reached the end of another decade in gaming! In 2009, there were two games released that made me fall in love with two different video game series. Let’s take a look!
The first game I want to talk about was released in November 2009, although I would not be able to play it until Christmas Day that year, and that game is Assassin’s Creed II. Now, I had intially tried the first Assassin’s Creed game but its flaws put it me off completing it when I first played it. However, the concept of the series was so unique and appealed to the historian within me, that I was prepared to give the series another go with Assassin’s Creed II. And boy, was I glad that I did. Assassi’s Creed II took everything that showed the series had potenital, from the first game, and improved it. I love Ezio and his character arc, the historical setting, even the side activites and collectibles were OK. Assassin’s Creed II is still one of the best entries in the Assassin’s Creed franchise and is still my favourite.
The second game I wanted to talk about was Dragon Age: Origins, a fantasy RPG developed by Bioware. As I mentioned in my last A Year Of My Life In Games post, I had been in a bit of a gaming slump and whilst Fallout 3 helped to pull me out of that slump, it was Assassin’s Creed II and Dragon Age: originsthat helped to reignite my passion for gaming. In Dragon Age: Origins, your character embarks on a journey to save an entire country, after being left as one of the only poeple who can stop a cataclysmic event from happening. The game allowed you to pick one of six origin stories (hence the name of the game), develop relationships with your party memebers and give you some tough decisions to make. It took everything I loved about the RPG genre and bundled it into one game. Like with Assassin’s Creed II, Dragon Age: Origins is my favourite game out of the Dragon Age series.
So, there were the two games from 2009, that helped me get back into gaming. What games released 2009 did you play? Let me know in the comments below and join me next week, when we’ll be taking alook at the games from 2010. See you then!
