OK, so its been a while since I’ve done one of these top five lists, so I felt like it was a good time to do another one. My boyfriend has just finished playing the remaster of one his favourite games, Final Fantasy VII, which gave me a good idea for this list. Today, I’m going to be talking about five games that I think deserve a remaster.
5. Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain.
Recently we have seen a return of the vampires in gaming, with Vampyre released in 2018 and Vampire: The Masquerade- Bloodlines 2 (hopefully) being released this year. So why not have a remaster of one of the most iconic vampire games? Yep, I’m talking about Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, in which you play as the vampire Kain who must restore balance to the world of Nosgoth in order to cure his vampirism. The Legacy of Kain series is a bit of a neglected franchise but perhaps a remaster of the first game may revive this dormant series?
4. Assassin’s Creed.
Long time readers of this blog will know that I’m a bit of an Assassin’s Creed fan, so this won’t come as a surprise that an Assassin’s Creed game had made this list! Whilst the series has been around for over a decade, its initial start was a little rocky. The original Assassin’s Creed, in which you play an asassin called Altair during the Crusades, was praised for its concept but criticised for its repetitive gameplay. I replayed the game a couple of years ago and it certainly hasn’t aged well from a gameplay and graphical point of view, nonethless its story and unique setting help to overcome this. A remastered version would be an opportunity to address some of the criticism and resolve some of the outstanding bugs. As its the only Assassin’s Creed game that has yet to see a release on this generation of console, I think we should return to the Holy Lands soon.
Here is a forgotten RPG from the Playstation 2 library. In Summoner, you play as Joseph, a man born with the mark of the summoner which gives him the ability to call forth monsters and magical entities. You will embark on a journey with your party to fulfil Joesph’s destiny. As a launch title for the Playstation 2, Summoner is showing its age; yet like with Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, I think a remaster could help to reboot this series which has been forgotten since its developers went bankrupt. If you are interested in Summoner, you can actually buy it on Steam, so why not give this classic a go?
2. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
OK, so Oblivion may not be the oldest game on this list, nor is it a forgotten gem but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve a little bit of TLC. As I mentioned in my recent post, A Year Of My Life In Games- 2006., The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is showing its age and could do with a fresh coat of paint.. or pixels. After all, why should Skyrim be the only Elder Scrolls game released on very console known to man? An Oblivion remaster would be just the thing to tide Elder Scrolls fan over with, until the release of The Elder Scrolls VI.
1. Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance.
And my number one game that needs to be remastered is Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance, a game that was released on Playstation 2, Xbox and Gamecube back in 2001. This game holds a special place in my gamer’s heart as it was the first Baldur’s Gate game I played and one I tried to complete with my friend, Khinjarsi. Even by today’s stand, this dungeon crawling RPG holds up really well, so why would I want it remastered? Because you can’t play it on any modern consoles or on PC. I think its a shame that so many people have missed out on this classic RPG and a remaster would finally give them an opportunity to play it.
So, those were my top five games that I would like to see remastered. There are a lot of games that unfortunately didn’t quite make this list, so which games do you think deserved to be remastered? Let me know in the comments below and I’ll talk to you soon!
