A Year Of My Life In Games- 2002.

Today is the day that I finally get to talk about my favourite game of all time. I think some of you can probably guess what game it is going to be, so let’s just get straight to it!

Its Final Fantasy X. Like I said, this won’t come as a surprise to long time readers of this blog, as I have mentioned the game a couple of times. Some of you may be thinking I’ve gone a bit crazy, as Final Fantasy X was released in 2001. Well, not in Europe, this is another example of Europe having a delayed release for a game. Anyway, this was my first Final Fantasy game and, if you’re not including the Pokemon games, it was also my first JRPG. This meant I had no clue what was going on but I was still loving the experience..

The game follows Tidus, a young Blitzball player with serious father abandonment issues, as he finds himself joining Yuna, a summoner on a pilgrimage to save her world.Along the way, they meet some colourful characters, experience betrayal and uncover some conspiracies going on in the land of Spira. When I first played Final Fantasy X, the story and the characters completely blew me away. Up until then, I had not really played any game that had such a deep plot, since most of the games I played were platformers or strategy games.

I’ll be honest, there aren’t that many games that I’ve fallen in love with, like I have with Final Fantasy X. For me, its truly a special game, that introduced me to the RPG and JRPG genres; which are, to this day, my favourite genres of video games.

And that was 2002 gaming for me. What are your favourite games from 2002? Feel free to share your all time favourite games in the comments below!

    1. I’m just starting to play the PS1 Final Fantasy games. This week, I started Final Fantasy VII which I can defiantly see why so many people love it, but its too early to see if it can top FFX for me.
Which of the PS1 Final Fantasy games is your favourite?

      1. The Otaku Judge

Final Fantasy 9. Loved the characters and it’s nods to past games. Maybe I am biased though, as it was the first JRPG I managed to beat.

      2. I’ve heard from a couple of people that FF9 is a good one to play, that may have to be the next one I pick up. I’ve always believed that whichever Final Fantasy game was your first one, tends to be the one you love the most.

  1. 2002 – the year of Ultima Online for me. Looking back it’s a little difficult to believe that I all I accomplished in the game was mostly concentrated in 2002. Then came AoS… But that’s a discussion for 2003.

      1. This was Ultima Online, the MMORPG… It had parts that were hard until you got the hang of it, and parts that were really hard unless you were very good, but mostly it was just a matter of mastering the game. I only ever played one of the actual Ultima games, and I sucked at it… But I generally suck at that kind of game anyhow. Turn based strategy is my usual jam.

  2. Man, I feel Final Fantasy X is really underrated. It has a great gameplay engine, a plot that’s at the very least interesting, and a rather unique and gorgeous visual design. It’s really one of the best games to come out of that series, in my opinion.
