2001 was a really good year for video games, at least for me. This was the year where a couple of my favourite games were released, so I guess its a pretty important year for me. Well, let’s take a look at the games from 2001!
Let’s start off with one of my favourite Pokemon games of all time- Pokemon Silver/Gold. OK, so for a lot of the world, Silver and Gold had already been released but for anyone in the UK, or Europe in general, it wasn’t released until 2001. Still, the wait was worth it.
Pokemon Silver and Gold took everything that made the original games popular and improved on it. There were now over 200 Pokemon to catch, a new region to explore and new Pokemon types introduced. Plus, the end game content after beating the Elite Four was incredible. To this day, Pokemon Gold and Silver are great examples of what sequels to video games should be.
My second game for this list isn’t a hugely popular game but for the nostalgia it gives me, it deserves a mention. Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance was an action RPG set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. What makes the game so special for me, was the fact it had two player co-op. Khinjarsi, from Upon Completion, and I would spend hours trying to work our way through the campaign. Unfortunately, we never did finish it but the fun we had attempting to complete it has remained with me.
So, those were two games released in 2001 that were important to me. What games released in 2001 did you love? Let me know in the comments!
Unfortunately, the video game curse strikes again and my all time favourite game wasn’t released in Europe until 2002, unlike everywhere else in the world, which got it in 2001. Want to know what that game is? Come back next week to find out!
