January Humble Monthly… Unboxing?!

Its a new year and new bundle. Historically, I’ve not always been great with playing the games that I receive in the monthly bundles, which I hope to change this year. This year, I’m looking to play at least one game in each bundle. I would like to add that this isn’t a challenge, like the one I’m doing with Khinjarsi at Upon Completion but something I want to do, to make the most of my bundle each month.. With that said, let’s see what potential game I’ll be playing this month!

1. Q.U.B.E 2.

Kicking off this bundle and the first Humble Bundle game for 2019 is Q.U.B.E 2. From the trailer, I feel like this is a cross between Tomb Raider and Portal. You play as Amelia Cross, an archaeologist trapped on an unknown planet. The only way to help Amelia get home is to trust a stranger and solve a lot of puzzles. This game looks to be an interesting puzzle game, that will most likely appeal to Portal fans.

2. >observer_

Moving away from the colourful world of Q.U.B.E 2 to the much darker, dystopian one of  >observer_. In this psychological horror game, set in the cyberpunk themed future, you play Dan Lazarski, a member of the neural police force. As a neural detective, your job is to hack into the minds of criminals and their victims to find the truth. As you can imagine, in a future where everything is dark, the minds of societies worst are the not the sort of places you want to go. An interesting concept and one that I may pick up and play… when I feel brave enough!

3. Sundered: Eldritch Edition.

It would appear that the gaming world is not done with Lovecraft’s world, at least not for 2019! In Sundered, you play as Esche, a traveller trapped in a cavernous underworld-like place filled with monsters that are straight from Lovecraft’s mind. In order to survive, you must fight but will you succumb to using the corrupted power of this world at the risk of your humanity? Whilst I’m not a huge fan of Metroidvania-like games, I do love the art style of Sundered  and I’ll probably give this game a go at some point.

4. Wizard of Legend.

The next game in the bundle, is the first of the three revealed games for January, Wizard of Legend. Wizard of Legend is an action adventure, rogue-like game, in which you are a wizard competing ion the Chaos Trials, a series of magical challenges to determine who is the most powerful wizard. This game has been sitting on my Steam Wishlist for a little while, so I’m so happy to be adding this to my Steam library!

5. Just Cause 3: XXL Edition.

Moving on, we have the second revealed game, Just Cause 3: XXL Edition. If you love chaos and destruction, then I think this might be the game for you! You play Rico Rodriguez, a man given the mission to take down a dictator of a Mediterranean republic- by any means necessary. This just looks like its pure crazy and absolute fun, especially with all the additional items thrown in with this bundle. I already own the base game, I just haven’t played it, so I think I’ll end up giving this key to someone who wants it.

6. Project Cars 2.

At number six, we have the last of the revealed games, Project Cars 2.  This is a racing simulation game published by Bandai Namco. I don’t play racing games but I can say that this certainly looks like a beautiful game. Funnily enough, I acquired the first Project Cars game through the Humbly Monthly Bundle. Perhaps its time that I give the racing genre a fair go?

7. Regions of Ruin.

Swapping the realistic graphics for more pixelated ones, we have Regions of Ruin, an action adventure RPG. You are a dwarf, who is determined to prevent the extinction of his kind. To do this, you must travel across the world and rescue dwarves and build a suitable settlement for them. Graphically, it reminds me a lot of Kingdoms, which was a game that surprised me how much I enjoyed it. Regions of Ruin is definitely a game going on my to-play list!

8. The Darkside Detective.

At number eight, we’re sticking with the pixel art style, but this time with the point and click adventure, The Darkside Detective. You are Detective Francis McQueen, the lead investigator of the Darkside Division in Twin Lakes City, the division responsible for keeping the city safe from the paranormal. This looks like its a point and click adventure right up my street, so I will be playing this in the future!

9. Roombo: First Blood.

The final game in this month’s bundle is the Humble Monthly Original, in which you are a robotic vacuum cleaner, trying to fend off burglars. This is a unique looking stealth gaming and is probably one of the few Humble Originals that I would actually play.

 

And that was the January bundle! This was such a great bundle to start this year with, with plenty of games that I would actually play. I think for this month, it will be either Regions of Ruin or The Darkside Detecive that I will be playing, as they both stand out to me. What about you, which game appeals to you?
