Later Levels’ Question of the Month, December Edition.

Its the last Question of the Month of 2018 from Later Levels! I’ve had a real blast at taking part in these questions over the course of the year and I have to say, the questions that members of the blogging community have come up with have been incredible. I think it probably goes without saying, as long as Later Levels keeps posting these questions, I’ll definitely try and answer them. So without further ado, let’s take a look at the December question!

The question for December is:

Most of us have been gaming our whole lives, so we’ve had a ton of Christmases that have passed us by filled with plenty of wonderful gaming memories. Whether it’s the best present you’ve ever gotten, or being with your family on Christmas morning while playing Super Smash Bros., we all have warm fuzzy memories of this time. Perhaps it’s because family always comes together or because as kids we’d receive the games we had dreamed of for months; or perhaps this time of year just tends to crystalise these memories that stand out forever.

Were you the embodiment of the N64 kid and receiving a gaming-related gift that seemed legendary to you? Did you come together over a hefty meal and a game of Mario Party? What is your favourite holiday season gaming memory?

If you’ve been a long time reader of this blog, or at  read one of the 30 Day Video Game Challenge series that I have written, then you probably already know the answer to this question. My favourite holiday season gaming memory has to be when I received my Game Boy Color for Christmas from my parents. It was in the late 90’s when a lot of children my age were playing the Pokémon games on their Game Boy Colors and I really wanted to join in the fun as I had been sucked into the Pokémon craze at the time.

My parents had three children to buy Christmas presents for, so I knew back then that a Game Boy Color wasn’t a realistic present to ask for. You can probably imagine my surprise on Christmas morning, when I unwrapped my present from my parents, to find I had been given my very own Game Boy Color along with Pokémon Yellow, a game which would have my sole attention for a very long time. I can’t really describe how I felt on that Christmas morning all those years ago but it will certainly be a memory and a feeling that will remain with me for a very long time.

Oh and in case you were wondering, I still have my Game Boy Color and Pokémon Yellow, to this day, both in working order.

Now that I’ve shared my Christmas gaming memory, why not write your own? Just remember it share it/the link to it over at Later Levels, so other bloggers can also read it. Finally, I just wanted to finish this by saying a big thank you to Kim at Later Levels and to all the other bloggers who make Question of the Month such a fantastic thing to part in.

Hopefully I’ll see you guys next year, with the January 2019 Question of the Month!

  1. One of those questions that in one way I can’t relate to… I was an adult by the time console gaming and handhelds came around, and I never got into them. As far as being a gamer goes, I’m a PC gamer to the extent that I’m a gamer.

That being said… I do have a Christmas related gaming memory. My wife gave me City Of Heroes (A superhero MMORPG) one Christmas – and I absolutely fell in love with it.

(Snipped about four paragraphs gushing about the parts of the game I loved.)

It’s been six years since it shut down though… and I’m still sad that I will never again fly the skies above Paragon City.

    1. Aww, that’s still a great memory! I remember reading about City of Heroes in, I think, PC Gamer and really wanting to play but unfortunately our family PC at the time had no hope of running properly.
I heard there was a new superhero MMO in development that was supposed to be the spiritual successor to City of Heroes, so maybe there’s a chance for you to fly again?

      1. There’s three actually… (spiritual successors being built by former players) Last time I checked, none had gone anywhere.

Yah, that was one of the coolest parts – the full 3d environment. You could fight while flying!
