I’ll be honest, I hate the heat. Freezing cold, I can deal with but when the temperature outside starts to rise, I just can’t handle it. So, I’m probably one of the few people in the UK who is praying for some rain. Unfortunately, it looks like this heat is here to stay for July and perhaps even August. Yay.
Anyway, enough of my complaining, let’s talk about what I’ve been doing!
What have I been reading?
I managed to read two books this week! The first was Assassin’s Creed: Revelations by Oliver Bowden, which concludes Ezio’s story in Constantinople. I was actually surprised by much detail was added, that wasn’t in the video game. For example, Ezio’s relationship with Sofia is expanded and takes a more prominent role in the novel. Also, the ending is way different, in a good but bittersweet way. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations is definitely the best of the Assassin’s Creed novels that I’ve read so far.
The other book was for the Sword and Laser bookclub, Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve. I remember reading Mortal Engines when I was about 11, so it was a bit of a nostalgia trip. Although, I somehow managed to forget how dark the book was, especially for a YA novel! Set in a post-apocalyptic future where some cities have been engineered to move, in order to survive, two unlikely companions uncover a plot that could throw the world into a second apocalyptic situation. Plus, there’s mech people with dead peoples’ brains inside, slavery, murder and other very dark topics. It was actually a great, if very short read, the only slightly negative thing I could say was that the pacing was incredibly fast. Still, I enjoyed it and I’ll probably be picking up the other books in the quartet for more nostalgia feelings!
What have I been playing?
I’ve been making some great progress in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Edward has now met the Assassins and my modern day nameless character has also met some Assassins, although they didn’t know that. I’ve also been merrily breaching data security by hacking all my colleagues’ computers in order to get some details on what went on after Assassin’s Creed III. I’m just under halfway through the game, which isn’t bad considering the amount of content there is to get through, but I imagine its going to take me at least a couple more weeks to finish. Also, I learnt the blowpipe is OP.
Aside from pirating, in Elder Scrolls Online, my friend and I tried out a career in thieving. It did not go well. Somehow, we were both caught in Abah’s Landing, home of the thieves guild, the moment we got out of the boat. Then we struggled to locate the guild. Seriously, someone should have a word with Abah;’s Landings’ map makers! Still, it was a nice change of scenery from Glenumbra and it was fun trying something a little different to combat. On my main character, I’v been completing quests in Grahtwood and also a couple more dungeons.
