Harry Potter Challenge: Day 3. Favourite Character.

Moving on from yesterday’s slightly negative topic, today I’,m talking about my favourite character.

This is a bit of an interesting topic as if I was asked this while I was reading the series, my answer would be, without hesitation: Hermione Granger. Hermione, while being a bit of a know-it-all, is still one of the more likeable characters in the series. She aspires to be the very best that she can be and while she does have a respect for the rules, she won’t let that stop her from doing what is right. The fact that she is a bookworm, made her relatable to young Thero. However with the Harry Potter series complete, there is now another character who pushed Hermione off the top spot as my favourite character.

Yes, Severus Snape. Arguably one of the most complex characters in the series, in which it would take seven books to reveal the real Snape. I suspect anyone who read my Top 5 Anti-Heroes post, would probably see this choice coming. Snape is a dark character with a tortured past but despite of everything he goes through, he is prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice for the one person he truly loved. Throughout the series, he was a character plenty of people, myself included, loved to hate. He represented that one teacher that we felt had it in for us, but once the story was over, the revelation that Snape was not who I thought he was, has remained with me.

I guess that is why Snape is my favourite character, with him I learnt the true lesson of not judging a book by its cover.

Who was your favourite character from the series? Let me know in the comments and join me tomorrow when I’ll be discussing my favourite villain. See you then!

  2. Well, to be honest I was not able to forgive Snape even after he told the truth… Yeah I felt sad for him, but that’s no excuse for what he did… My favorite character has been from book one Hermione Granger! 😀 When I got to meet Emma Watson in the movies and started picturing her while reading I even started to like her even more xD Which for me was a new thing since every time I watch a movie from a book I tend to dislike the actors xD

    1. Hermione does come a close second for me! And I understand why you feel that way about Snape. I have a problem with movie adaptations, which why I tend to read books first and watch films second, but for the Harry Potter films in general they managed to adapt the books pretty well.

      1. To be honest I think they adapted more or less! xD However I understand, it’s impossible to put all the story from a book in a movie xD
But I think that they stopped taking notice to some details such as the students using normal clothes while at school. The first I can remember they did that was the third one. But, if you are able to forget the books while watching the movies they are great 😛

      2. If I recall, J. K. Rowling did have a lot of control over the earlier films, which shared the same screenwriter; which may also explain the shift in how close the films were the novels.
