February Humble Monthly… Unboxing?!

Its now February, which means it time to share my love of opening virtual boxes of random games! Let’s dive in!

1.  Life is Strange.

OK,so the first game is one I own and started to play… but then got distracted. Life is Strange is an episodic adventure game where you play as Max, a young student who discovers she can rewind time. This ability naturally means your choices will have consequences. Life is Strange is a game that has been installed on PC for a while and I hope to get back round to playing it, as I’ve only heard good things about it. If you’re interested in giving it a go, the first episode is free to play on Steam.

Price on Steam: £15.99.

 

2. Tacoma.

Tacoma is a sci-fi adventure mystery game, in which your mission is to find out what happened to the crew on a particular space station. To do this, you have the ability to pause and rewind the events as you move about the station. Tacoma looks like it could be a slow game but one that could get pretty emotional towards the end. I’ll be looking to play this one in the future.

3. Sid Meier’s Civilization VI & DLC.

Now, we move onto one of the revealed games, Sid Meier’s Civilization VI. This is the latest game in the long running Civilization series, which I must confess I’ve only ever played a Nintendo DS port of, so I’m happy to be able to try out a full PC version. Civilization VI is a turn based strategy game where your goal is to lead your civilisation through the ages, using war diplomacy and technology advances to expand your empire. As an added bonus, the bundle also gives us two DLC packs: Australia Civilization & Scenario Pack and the Vikings Scenario Pack. That’s a serious amount off strategy gaming!

Price on Steam: £49.99 (for base game), £4.49 (for Australia DLC) and £3.99 (for Vikings DLC).

 

4. Owlboy.

Our fourth game is the second revealed game of this month’s bundle, Owlboy. Owlboy is an adventure platforming game, in which you play as Otus, a mute owl person, whose flying abilities allow him to explore the world and deal with the sudden appearance of sky pirates. Owlboy oozes with charm and gives me a nostalgic feeling , which means it won’t be long before I play it!

Price on Steam: £18.99.

 

5. Black the Fall.

In Black the Fall, you play a machinist who is trying to escape a Communist state, with the help of an abandoned robot. I love these sort of puzzle games that require you to use the two characters to solve the puzzles, even though I’m not great at them. The visual design of this game is pretty interesting, especially what is shown in the trailers on Steam. Black the Fall is a game that is definitely going on my to-play pile.

6. Snake Pass.

In Snake Pass, you play as a snake (obviously!) who needs to get to the top of Haven Tor and reunite the missing keystones. Snake Pass is a physics based puzzle platfomer with a  twist. Although I’m not usually a fan of physics based platformers, I mean platforming is hard enough,  the unique concept of Snake Pass has me intrigued enough that I will probably play it at some point.

7. The Norwood Suite.

OK, this one is a little strange. The Norwood Suite is a first person adventure game, in which you explore the strange Hotel Norwood and its bizarre guests and staff. I’ll be honest this one is a little too weird for me, so I may one day play it out of curiosity but not yet. 8. Fortune-499.

And finally, we come to the Humble Original game, Fortune-499. In this game, you play as a fortune teller who works for a large corporation, who must use their magic to keep their job. It sounds like a quirky game, that sort of appeals to me, so I may check this one out.

 

And that was the Humble Bundle for February. The overall price for all the games on Steam came to £142.41, so I definitely got value for money, especially as I will be playing most of these games… eventually. Let me know in the comments which of the games you like the look off.

March’s revealed game is Dark Souls III and its Ashes of Ariandel DLC, so if you want the game you buy the March bundle now and be able to play it straight away. If not, you can always come back next month, where I’ll be looking at the next Humble Monthly bundle. See you then!

    1. This has definitely been one of the better bundles in terms of variety. Aside from The Norwood Suite, which doesn’t appeal as much and Life is Strange, which I already own, all the other games I do want to play. So the bundle was, for me, absolutely worth it.
      From the little I played of Life is Strange, it is a game I think I will enjoy, I just bought it a time when other games were being released, so I didn’t give it the attention it deserved.
      As for Tacoma, I’m glad I’m not the only one that buys discounted games and then haven’t gotten around to playing them!

      1. Haha no you definitely aren’t… I bought other games (also discounted) at the same time as Tacoma and I haven’t started them either. In my defence, for this time anyway, I have been trying to finish games I had already started (AC:O, BotW etc) and some that have been waiting even longer to be played (the Telltale games I have been playing and Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright). So I don’t think its too bad this time (I won’t mention the other times that this happens haha). But yes you aren’t the only one.

      1. Tacoma, The Norwood Suite and Fortune 499. I’ve downloaded the demo for Norwood…and I lost it a long time ago – Steam decided noone was sharing and I had to get Ali and Ellen to relog in and set it up again.

  4. I got this month’s Bundle as well! I was motivated by Civ VI, but I’m starting to feel that Life is Strange might be the biggest prize in there for me.

    I already had Owlboy, and although I only had time to play a bit of it, the bit I played was just marvelous. It’s a very charming and creative game, and moving around really feels right in it. Its opening, at least, is an excellent experience.

    1. With what everyone else is saying about Life is Strange, I think you’re right. Although even if the other games weren’t that great, Civ VI would still have made the bundle worth it for me.

      Owlboy has been sitting on my Steam wishlist for ages, so it was a pleasant surprise when Humble Bundle announced it was going to be an additional game in the bundle. I’ve just got to find time to play it!

  6. I haven’t renewed my sub on Humble Bundle in months because I usually own the games they’re advertising. I hope you enjoy Civilization VI. It’s a fantastic game. Part V is one of my favorites of all time. This reminded me that I still need to play Life is Strange. I’ve been putting it off for a long time.

    1. I tend not to own the advertised game but there is usually one or tow in the bundle that I already own. I usually have friends that want those games, so it still worth doing. Quite a few people say that Civ V is one of the best in the series. How come you were putting off playing Life is Strange?

      1. I haven’t been in the mood for a slow game until recently and from what I’ve seen on Life is Strange I don’t think I’m going to like it. Every time I tell myself I’m going to play it I end up playing a different game. I’ve been into multiplayer games lately.

        I’m not like that with games lol. If my wife isn’t interested in any of the games advertised I don’t buy them if I already own them. I’m very picky with games I get and I would rather not take the chance of getting something I don’t like because they don’t show you every game in the bundle until it’s already unlocked. Last time I bought a bundle I ended up with a bunch of games I don’t play.

      2. I’ve played a little of the first episode of Life is Strange and my initial impression is that it will be a bit of a slow game. I’ll probably play it in-between more action orientated.

        That’s a fair point about the bundles. I guess I naively (or stubbornly) believe that one day I will try some of the games. Unfortunately, it has left me with a bit of a backlog!
