Christmas is just around the corner, which means another seasonal event in Eorzea!
How do you take part in the event?
Once you have reached level fifteen in any Disciple of War or Magic, you can head over to the Mih Khetto’s Amphitheatre in Old Gridania. There you can start the quest ‘Stars and Explosions and Bears, Oh My’.

What is the event?
The event consists of two quests, ‘Stars and Explosions And Bears, Oh My’ and ‘Starlight Stakeout’ and one FATE, ‘Bad Luck Comes In Trees’. That is it. The whole thing took me about twenty minutes to complete and most of that was waiting for the FATE to reappear, as other players had completed it when I had initially arrived. Admittedly, you can repeat the FATE to earn Starlight boxes, that can be traded in for rewards. A bit of advice to anyone farming the FATE, remember to go to the Starlight Bear Handler mount to remount the quest bear and not your own mount, otherwise you won’t earn any Starlight boxes.
What are the rewards?
For completing the two quests, you get a bear wearing a Santa costume! I’m not sure how anything could beat that. And yes, it can apparently fly. A flying Christmas bear certainly makes this event worth it, particularly when it also has a special action, that gets the bear to throw a present that explodes into snowflakes. Apart from the bear, if you complete the FATE, ‘Bad Luck Comes In Trees’, you earn Starlight boxes, which can be traded with the vendor near the amphitheatre. The items available are all seasonal themed and include the following:
- Starlight Celebration Advertisement, a poster for your housing.
- Starlight Stew Set & Starlight Log Set, two tabletop decorations for your home.
- Starlight Sapling, a small tree to decorate a table.
- Starlit Gateway Orchestrion Roll, this item allows you to have the Starlight seasonal music as your background music in your home/inn room.
- 5 different seasonal themed foods, you can consume these for different buffs.
- Magicked Prism, Sunshine or Stardust. These two items create cosmetic effects around your character.
As you can see, there are plenty of rewards to choose from but I think the Santa Bear is the best reward.
Final Words.
The Starlight celebration was a fun event to complete, even if it was a little short to complete. Having completed five Final Fantasy XIV events, I have to say I was a little disappointed that this was yet another FATE focused event. It would be nice next year to see some more varied content. Still, the bear mount is a fantastic and unique reward, that does make up for the repetition.
If you want your own Santa Bear to travel around Eorzea on, then you have until 31st December to complete the event!

Thank you for this post! I just started playing Final Fantasy XIV Online last week and I love it so far (only level 18 at the moment lol). It’s my first FF game but I love RPGs so I thought I’d give it a try. I’m going to play the event tomorrow if I can because I do not have to work.

You’re welcome, I glad you’re enjoying the game! If you are already level 18, it seems like you are making good progress. What class did you start as?

I’m an Arcanist. Made it to 23 yesterday so I’m chugging along. Also played my first dugeon and it went really well!

A Disciple of Magic! I mainly play as a White Mage because I tend to play support roles. Did you enjoy your first dungeon experience? Have managed to get your Santa Bear mount yet?

Oh cool! My friend plays the white mage. I really like the dungeon. I haven’t gotten the Santa Bear mount yet. I’m about to play now and hopefully start the mission.
