Video Game Challenge- 30. Your Favourite Game of All Time.

Here it is. The final post for this 30 day challenge. I’ll be honest this is probably going to be short and pretty predictable. My all time favourite game is…

Final Fantasy X!

Come on, was that really a big surprise? Don’t get me wrong it has its flaws… and its awkward laughing scene. But the moment I hear the first notes of Zanarkand, I know I’m in for a rollercoaster of emotion. Final Fantasy X manages to find the right balance of story, characters, setting and gameplay. Even now, more than a decade and a half after its original release, it manages to stand the test of time. It was one of the first games to get me emotionally invested in the characters and listen to their story. And I am more than happy to play that story over and over again.

So that was my favourite game, please share your favourite games in the comments!

And that guys, is the end of the 30 day video game challenge. It was actually nice to finish on a game that partially started the challenge off. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed it. I certainly found it fun, if challenging. If any of you guys, try any sort of 30 day challenge, please let me know as I would love to support you.

Speaking of support, I want to thank anyone who took the time to read, comment and like these posts. I also want to ti[p my Internet hat to Khinjarsi and Luna, who both attempted this challenge as well. You are both crazy.

And that, is that. Some of you will be pleased to know, I’ll be back to my usual topics next week. See  you then!

  1. I haven’t played Final Fantasy X since its original release, but I remember it was quite the remarkable game for its time. The visuals were top-notch, the characters extremely likable, and the story was gripping. I can easily see why you’d choose FFX as your favorite game!

As for mine, it’s a tough pick. Off the top of my head, I’d have to say it’s a tie between Metal Gear Solid 3 for the PlayStation 2 and Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors for the DS. I love both games to death, but for two completely different reasons. I just can’t choose D:

Metal Gear Solid 3 is as close to a perfect game as you can ever get. The gameplay expertly balanced stealth and action, it has one of the most well-written characters in all of gaming, and one of the most emotional endings I’ve ever experienced in a game.

999 on the other hand, I love more for the ways in which it incorporated the Nintendo DS hardware, both in its gameplay and story. I won’t spoil it, but the final revelation in the true ending is an experience every gamer has to see for themselves. Just make sure to play it on the Nintendo DS, or you will lose out significantly on its meaning. Also, the story is simply amazing.

    1. It sounds like I should try Nine Hours, Nine Persons and Nine Doors, as its sounds like the sort of game I would enjoy. I must admit, I’ve been looking for a game to play on my DS, so I’ll be looking into it.

I have to confess I have never played a Metal Gear Solid game. I’m not sure why I haven’t played one, as I’ve heard they are great games. Would Metal Gear Solid 3 be the best game to start with, for a new player to the series?

      1. Metal Gear Solid 3 is a prequel to the entire series so it can work well as an introduction. Though, if you don’t mind going back to late 90’s low polygon gaming, I’d personally recommend starting on the original Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation.

And if you are interested in 999, it is a visual novel adventure game, in which 9 people are kidnapped and forced to play a game, in a life-or-death situation. It’s a bit similar to the Saw films, except more philosophical and japanese.

  2. The Otaku Judge

I loved FFX back in the day. Bought the remaster on Vita, but never finished it. Got distracted by Blitzball. Wish that Square would make a standalone Blitz game. It would be better than fishing!
